5 Dental Mistakes that will Make your Teeth Fall Out

By the age of ten, all of our milk teeth have been replaced by permanent teeth. Permanent teeth, as all of us should be aware of, must last us a lifetime because we won’t be grow any replacements. If you want to ensure that your permanent teeth last forever, here are 5 dental mistakes that will make your teeth fall out.

  1. Sugary Diet

Who doesn’t love sugar? However, too much of sugar can be the worst mistake you make for your dental health. A sugary diet results in plenty of sugar molecules getting stuck on your teeth. Sugar turns your teeth into a breeding ground for bacteria. This leads to cavities.

You are what you eat and that includes your teeth too. Avoid a diet that is high in sugar. Choose  a diet that is high in fiber. Foods that are high in fiber, like apples, increase the strength of your teeth, gums and dental structure.

  1. Teeth Grinding

Have you ever found yourself clenching your jaw tightly? You may be doing it more often than you think. Clenching your jaw tightly leads to teeth grinding, which is also known as bruxism. It puts immense pressure on your teeth, gums and dental structure. Furthermore, the problem is complicated when it’s done frequently. People who suffer from bruxism don’t just grind their teeth during the day, but also during the night while asleep.

If you suspect that you grind your teeth too often, visit a dentist. You may require a mouth guard.

  1. Poor Oral Hygiene

How often do you brush your teeth or perform flossing? Good oral hygiene is the best defense you can have to ensure that your teeth last long. By regularly brushing your teeth, you prevent food buildup in your mouth. Food buildup leads to bacterial growth, which results in cavities. Regular flossing ensures that there isn’t any food stuck between your teeth.

  1. No Dental Checkups

If you visit a dentist only when you have a dental problem – you’re doing it wrong. Dental checkups are necessary to help your teeth last long. If you wait for a dental problem to occur, then you may be too late and the dentist won’t be able to recover your tooth. Here’s what happens at a dental checkup:

  • Thorough inspection of your dental health

  • Any minor problems such as developing cavities and gaps are fixed

  • Discussion with your dentist on how you can take care of your teeth better

A dental checkup catches problems before they impact your teeth and cause them to fall off.

  1. Not Fixing Missing Teeth

Missing teeth leaves gaps in your dental structure. Food matter can gather here, leading to the growth of bacteria and eventually cavities. Missing teeth also weakens your dental structure. All of this will lead to you losing more teeth.

Permanent teeth need to last you a lifetime. Make certain you aren’t making these mistakes and that you keep your teeth in good condition. If you require a dental checkup, we’re more than happy to oblige.
