Do you like to talk to someone with a smelly breath? Well, nobody likes it; in fact, you tend distance yourself from that person instead. If you have been facing the problems and wondering how to get rid of smelly breath, then you’ve come to the right blog. Bad breath can occur due to various reasons such as stuck up food particles, consumption of odor causing food or cavities. Here are some tips to help you get rid of bad breath:

1) Clean your Teeth in and Out

The food particles stuck in your teeth are fodder for bacteria present in your mouth. This leads to form a sticky component called plaque. If not removed, plaque can turn to tartar, erode the enamel of your teeth, and lead to tooth decay and gum diseases. Bad breath is one of the outcomes of such poor oral hygiene. Brushing twice and flossing daily can prevent cavities and decay. Brush for two minutes daily and floss regularly to ensure your teeth are cleaned of harmful particles and bacteria.

2) Scrape your Tongue Daily

Your tongue can tell you a lot about your oral health. A healthy tongue looks pink. If you find a white coating on the surface of your tongue, it is because of the accumulated dead cells and food debris. This could be the reason behind bad breath. Apart from brushing and flossing, cleaning your tongue is an important part of good oral hygiene. Scrape your tongue daily with a tongue scraper and you’ll see the difference.

3) Follow a Healthy Diet Plan

Improper eating habits also contribute to poor dental health and can lead to smelly breath. Skipping meals can make your stomach empty and generates acids that causes bad breath. If you are suffering from persistent bad breath, then you should consider avoiding foods rich in sulphur such as onions and garlic for sometime. Also, spicy foods and chillies can cause digestion problems and lead to bad breath. Try including nutrition filled fruits and vegetables, yogurt, cheese, milk, etc., in your diet to fight smelly breath. Also, avoid skipping meals and develop healthy eating habits to enjoy good oral health and a fresh breath.

4) Quit Tobacco

Smoking or chewing tobacco does nothing good to your body. Tobacco results in problems like teeth stains, oral cancer, gingivitis, etc. Additionally, it dries your mouth rapidly. Saliva helps in fighting bacteria and keeping your mouth clean and moist. A dry mouth means low saliva production and accumulation of harmful bacteria. And, this could be one of the reasons you experience unpleasant breath. Quit tobacco for good now!

So, here’s how you to get rid of smelly breath. While these tips help, persistent bad breath can be a sign of serious issues like cavities, gingivitis, and periodontitis. If you’ve been facing the problem of bad breath for some time now, then it’s time you take up professional assistance. You can also contact us at College Plaza Dental, and we will be happy to help.
