You’ve been told time and again that it was vital that you see your dentist. In fact, young children are told that brushing, flossing and seeing the dentist at least twice a year are the three most basic things about proper dental health care. Everyone practically grew up being told that they must never miss out on dental visits. However, studies show that only one-third of the adult population of Canada see their dentist once every six months.
The whole point of seeing your dentist is not just to keep that beautiful smile on your face. More importantly, the visits are reserved for catching dental problems early. Then, they’d be more comfortable to treat. However, if you are one of those who keeps a hectic schedule, it is best to keep in mind the signs that will remind you it is time to see the dentist immediately. Here are some of them in a list:
• Gums bleed too often while you are brushing your teeth or even when you’re not. Sensitive gums are a clear sign that there is a problem. Seeing your dentist by then will help you identify what the problem is. Also, they could help you deal with it the best way possible.
• Teeth can fall of your mouth. That’s the fact that no one would like to see themselves suffer. When a tooth seems to be moving for no apparent reason – meaning it is not painful or that you see no reason for it to be moving, then you should see your dentist. It must be gingivitis or some other gum problem that could be causing it.
• There are red and white patches in the mouth. These patches are an indication of an infection and it needs to be dealt with immediately, before it causes any more dental health problems.
• Mouth sores are always manageable, but if they last for two weeks or longer, it is best to consult the dentist. After all, these sores can make eating, drinking or even swallowing very uncomfortable.
Regular dental visits are reserved for dental cleaning and for major check-ups to prevent the growth and spread of cavities in the mouth. Moreover, seeing your dentist will ensure that you don’t suffer from periodontal diseases that could cause swelling of the gums and tooth loss if it gets worse. Most of these gum problems don’t come with symptoms, that’s why you cannot be complacent about it. Everyone is vulnerable to tooth decay, and only a good dentist will be able to help you prevent the worst from happening.
